Seasonality
How Nifty and every NSE sector index did in each calendar month since 2016, with a luck check on every month and a ranking of all indices for the month ahead.
About the Seasonality
Do markets really have good and bad months? This seasonality page shows how Nifty 50, Bank Nifty and every other NSE sector and theme index did in each calendar month since 2016, as a heatmap, an average by month and a ranking of all indices for any month you pick.
Each month also gets a luck check, because ten years gives only about ten examples of each month. A month that looks strong may still be explained by chance, and the page says so.
Switch to “vs Nifty 50” to see which sectors usually beat the market in a given month, rather than just following it.
Common questions
Which is the best month for Nifty?
Open the Seasonality page with Nifty 50 selected: the bar chart shows the average return and how many years were higher for every month since 2016. With about ten years per month, check the luck chance before reading much into it.
Is seasonality reliable?
Only partly. Ten examples per month is a small sample, so most monthly differences are within what chance produces. Months marked with a star stand out more than luck usually explains, but even those can change.
How are monthly returns calculated?
From the last weekly closing value of each month in NSE's index data, so a month runs from the last weekly close of the previous month. The month still running is shown but left out of the averages.
